Dalton located at
the foothills of Blue Ridge Mountains has now developed the dubious distinction
of having lost the more jobs per capita than any other place in the United
States. The city for a long time has often been known as the Carpet Capital of
the World. It is estimated that the factories and industrial units in and
around Dalton were responsible for producing up to three quarters of the
countries carpet accessories and flooring needs. However off late, the carpet
industry in the city has been burdened by mounting losses leading to massive
cuts in jobs and sales.
With the ongoing
recession, fewer homes are being built which has directly impacted the sales of
carpet accessories. This has created a ripple effect on other support
industries in the city as well. For instance trucking industries have been forced
to find other means to offset the losses incurred due to loss in sales of
flooring products. Private enterprises, construction companies and the
hospitality sector are also feeling the pinch. If the reports presented by
Economic Forecasting Center at Georgia State University are to be believed more
than 4600 jobs have been lost in a city with a population of 100,000.
Ironically the loss of jobs includes 400 from the manufacturing industry which
indicates the extent to which other sectors are reliant on the carpet industry.
This scenario can
be especially difficult on a city like Dalton as it is heavily dependent on the
carpet industry. Many people who have been laid off over the last two years are
still facing trouble in finding full time employment. City officials are
however cautiously optimistic of a turnaround in the coming months. They point
out that once the economy of the country starts to recover the carpet industry
and other supporting subsidiaries would also be on their road to recovery.
Meanwhile the carpet accessories sector needs to figure out more cost effective
strategies to survive the onslaught of this recession.
The new legislation
that California governor, Jerry Brown, signed on Tuesday places a 1% tax on
consumer lumber products in addition to the current sales tax; but excludes
indoor flooring. The intention of the bill, which goes into effect January 1,
is aimed to restrict California's legal liability for wildfires and boost the
revenues of their timber industry.
As a result of the
regulatory fees that California manufacturers are assessed when harvesting
timber, outside companies have had a competitive edge over them. Currently, 70%
of the lumber in California is imported, the new legislation levels the
competitive playing field by eliminating manufacturers' regulatory fees. The
new legislation also gives manufacturing companies additional time to harvest
lumber without the need for duplicate environmental compliance documents.
However, because the regulatory fees must still be paid, the new legislation
diverts the regulatory costs onto consumers.
The lumber products
that are included in the new legislation are wood or wood fiber that is the
main component of the lumber product, such as solid or engineered wood
products. In terms of the main component, the wood must have a 10% volume of
the total content.
legislature, the defined engineered wood included refers to building products
such as: plywood, veneer based sheeting material, laminated veneer lumber,
edge-glued material, composite material or panel product that consists of 10%
wood. Wood products that are excluded in the legislation are cork or bark
products, paper products, indoor flooring, firewood, and furniture bark.
such as Home Depot and Lowes opposed the legislation because of the need to
track the sale of lumber products separately from the sale other personal
property. Smaller companies that are not on a computerized system will need to
know the lumber products that are identified by the Fire Board then track the
sales information as well; which could lead to the collection or reporting
The new lumber tax
was approved with a vote of 54 - 20 in the Assembly on September 1 in the House
of Representatives, and 27 - 9 in the Senate.
There are a few new
developments in the carpet industry. One of the major items that carpet
manufacturers are taking advantage of is recycling carpet remnants to make oil
and electricity. Most of these carpets will be broken done and reprocessed.
Professionals at ulovecarpets.co.uk should be knowledgeable about this type of
recycling going on in the carpet industry. Recycling is one of the reasons that
you should consider carpeting. It can actually be eco friendly.
Recyclers UK recently held a conference in Birmingham. During the process of
this conference individual speakers discussed the recycling of carpet remnants
into electricity. This is a relatively new development in the carpet recycling
industry but one that holds a great deal of promise for the future.
Another matter of excitement
for CRUK members is the chance to use carpet remnants and extract them for oil.
Oil is relatively easy to extract from carpet remnants. The fact that so much
carpet is discarded every year, means that individuals that are involved in the
carpet industry either in the supply, recycling or sales should look into the
newest and most innovative ways to recycle carpet remnants and waste.
Those who are
purchasing their carpet from ulovecarpets.co.uk may want to look into the
process of recycling their old carpet, and can ask your providers to help them
with this. Recycling is an interesting and ongoing development in the carpet
industry. Carpet recycling should turn into a reality for many consumers
looking to get rid of old carpeting. Currently over 16.5 percent of 400,000
metric tons of carpeting is recycled. There is also about 67,500 tons of carpet
that is diverted from landfills and is re used or recycled making approximately
49.5 percent. Carpet suppliers in the UK are working hard to make carpet
recycling and product reuse a 100 percent conversion rate. Continue to look for
these developments into the future.
community has being growing steadily for the past ten years as evident in the
large number of online business that operates through the internet. A recent
survey carried out in America shows that Internet provides jobs to over 3.1
Million American citizens. The large number of people who access internet
everyday in search of information, products and services has led to a
tremendous increase in revenue generated from the sales of Tredaire Underlay.
However, there are a number of challenges that face this online business. This
has to be addressed amicably so as to maintain economic growth and stability.
are so many online businesses that provide same products to customers. This has
led to a very stiff competition since each entrepreneur tries maintain a large
pool of active clients from all across the globe. Marketers indicate that for
any online business to counter this challenge, the entrepreneur has to come up
with new marketing strategies so as to compete effectively. For Example, online
businesses that sell Tredaire Underlay carpets have introduced coupons and
discounts in a bid to attract new clients. So far this has being very
successful, but it has become very monotonous and common hence marketers have
to come up with new ways to expand their market base.
Products- It's very unfortunate that there are some dubious suppliers that
supply clients with some low quality products. This has led to a decline in
sales of genuine products since most clients choose price over quality. At the
moment, the best solution to this problem is clients sensitization on some of
the features and criteria that they can use to differentiate between genuine
and counterfeit products.
The government also
needs to come up with rules and regulations that protect clients from
unaccredited suppliers and businesses. It's projected that the Tredaire
Underlay carpet sales will triple this year if the necessary marketing measures
In the past ten
years we have experienced an increase in establishment of many online carpets
businesses whose main role is to provide clients with quality carpets as per
their needs and preferences. A research that was carried out in January this
year indicates that online business may enjoy a 40% sales increment this year
if the economy and market forces remain less variable. This has in turn
attracted very many entrepreneurs who have opened various online businesses.
One of the factors
that is expected to significantly boost sales is the increase in number of
people who access internet every day. Internet has become one of the most
convenient and reliable source of information regarding various products and
services. Most people who access internet find it more economical to purchase
products from online stores due to the fact that they are able to compare
prices and enjoy discounts on products. Markets however need to come up with
new marketing strategies so as to take advantage of this scenario.
In the recent past,
there were very many illegal businesses whose main agenda was to sell low
quality products to unknowing clients. Fortunately, this has being
significantly reduced with the introduction of stringent rules and regulations
that govern establishment of online businesses in most countries. However, the
marketers need to carry out customer sensitization so as to empower clients
with the necessary information required to differentiate between counterfeit
and genuine products.
businesses that provide products to clients all across the globe are expected
to leap more benefits than small business that are just regional.
Implementation of effective marketing strategies can however help small
business entrepreneurs to increase their market base as well as sales. This can
only be possible through use of professional marketing tools and platforms such
as social media and content marketing.
With the high
global warming rate there is need for people to use environmentally friendly
materials at their homes and at work. It is due to this that major companies
manufacturing carpet underlays are adjusting the quality of their products by
making environmentally friendly carpet underlays.
The latest carpet
underlay that offers extra thermal and acoustic insulation is such a product
and its variety of features makes it one of the best there is in the market.
This carpet underlay is built and designed in such a way that it offers warmth
when it is cold and are cool when it is hot.So one would actually think that
these carpet underlays are adding to the increase in global warming by directly
having an impact on the surrounding temperature. With the latest technology
used in the manufacturing of these latest designs of carpet underlays there is
no way that there is a negative effect on the environment. Anyway, most of
these carpet underlay are actually made of biodegradable materials and
therefore help in preserving the environment for the well being of the human
race. After a long home usage these carpets disintegrate and form part of an
environmentally friendly by-products that cause no harm on the environment.
emerging feature of the latest carpet underlays is the fact that most
manufacturing companies use recycled materials in making these underlays and
therefore help in preservation of natural resources by re-using what had been
deemed waste. With this special feature the latest carpet underlays are
actually helping in managing the ecosystem and their positive impact on the
environment makes them what every home needs.
So, the next time
you go shopping for carpet underlays think of the latest environmentally
friendly underlays and help to combat global warming for the best of the coming
The carpet industry
is on the precipice of severe suffering due to the recession that has slowed
down the entire economy. Many of the industries that make famous handmade
carpets are shutting down as a result of the shortage of manpower,
demand for increased wages and also the price rise of the raw material.
The industry that has always devised good carpet deals in the global market and
earned great revenue is fighting for its existence as global imports and
exports have nearly stopped in many countries like India, Iran and
Pakistan. As a result the prices of the carpet deals have increased
subsequently. There are certain countries like Turkey and China that
have entirely stopped their production business because the sustenance
cost of the industry is becoming alarmingly high.
However the American carpet industry is a success story amidst the global
recession phenomenon. The industry has reinvested a capital of $2
billion and has made an overall business of $1 billion. Therefore
undoubtedly it has emerged as the global leader in the textile industry. This
in turn has prompted the manufacturers to invest subsequently and
produce quality carpets with efficiency as well as speed. Other factors
have also contributed to making the American carpet business hard to beat during
recession times. Distribution system of the industry is highly meticulous as
compared t any overseas industry. The carpet industry in US also employs
fewer numbers of people and is highly mechanized.
Therefore there is
not much discord amongst the employees regarding their wages and the productionis efficient. Due to advantages regarding the logistical cost, abundance
of raw materials, advantages of service and quality control, the carpet
deals have not suffered in the US. Also the carpet industry have not suffered
from the losses of the global recession due to the product line that is highly
splintered and also the unparalleled warehousing techniques employed by
the US carpet companies.
scientific data indicate that climate change has been on the rise for the last
ten years. This has led to a decline in production of wool which is the main
raw material used in production of wool carpets. Some of the countries such as
Australia that are known to supply tonnes of wool to this industry have being
unable to meet the demand due to occurrence of frequent drought and lack of
This is attributed
to the fact that climatic changes cause a disruption in the rainfall patterns.
These results in some areas receiving unsustainable amount of rainfall while
other experience heavy rainfall that cause detrimental damage to the pastures.
For example in Tasmania Island farmers have experienced prolonged drought
periods due to lack of enough rainfall. However, the Australian government has
come up with measures to counter these negative impacts. This includes programs
that aim at introducing new animal keeping techniques that are less susceptible
to the effects of climate change.
The scenario is the
same in areas such as Mongolia where farmers have had to endure a significant
in reduction in the size of grasslands available for grazing their Merino
Sheep. Overgrazing has also aggravated these problems since farmers lack enough
information on how to control the number of animals that they should stock in a
given piece of land. Due to low rainfall, the ground water reservoirs are unable
to sustainably supply water for both domestic and human consumption.
The government in
this region need to come up with other sustainable measures so as to ensure
that this industry is not further affected by climate change. Already in some
regions, governmental and non-governmental organisations have come up with
incentives as well as farmer sensitization programs that help to empower them
with skills and knowledge required to maintain their wool production at a
profitable level. If these programmes are introduced all over the world,
production of wool carpets will not further be affected by climate change and
Cormar Carpets has not once,
not twice but for the third time won this most prestigious of awards from
within the flooring industry. It has cemented its position as one of the
leading independent carpet manufacturers in the UK by continuing its run of
industry accolades – winning three this year, including Interior’s Monthly 2012
Best Flooring Customer Service Award for the third time.
The award was once again
voted by the most important of people, the readers themselves, of the flooring
trade magazine. Interiors Monthly. This follows on from last years success of
the award for Best Carpet Manufacturer. Earlier this year Cormar Carpets
also won a further two independent retail carpet buying group awards one after
the other - Flooring One’s ‘Supplier of the Year’ (eighth time), followed by
the Metro Group ‘Flooring Supplier of the Year’, which Cormar Carpets has won
for 13 consecutive years - an accomplishment no other carpet company has
Says David Cormack, Marketing
Director of Cormar Carpets: "The service we provide to carpet shops throughout
Britain and Ireland is one of the areas we have always concentrated hard on.
The past few years have been tough for the flooring industry and, as a result,
retailers are looking for carpet suppliers that they can rely on. After all,
their reputation is on the line every time they place an order.
Cormar is really bucking the trend within the carpet industry.
Whereas some may be struggling in the current climate this is not so with
Cormar Carpets. One of the success stories of the British carpet industry,
Cormar remains independently owned and has set a formidable industry benchmark
for ‘getting it right and quality of service’. With fierce competition from
overseas, it has earned a reputation for offering top quality service, quality wool
and polypropylene carpets and reliability of delivery to all of its customers.
"Our service starts the minute the yarn is put on the tufting
machine at Holme Mill, to when the carpet is delivered by the Cormar driver.
And it carries right through to our people in invoicing and after sales.”
Over the past five years Cormar Carpets has continuously
invested in its manufacturing warehouses, its workforce, machinery and
distribution to keep itself competitive, including a new 5 metre cut length
machine that will increase its already huge capacity.
Last year the Company also invested in new technology and developed a new B2B
trade web portal which is now being used on a growing scale each and every day.
All its customers who use the internet are finding it a revelation in the way
that it can now so easily check stock levels on a live basis as well as order
from current stock with just a few clicks of a button. It showcased a range of
interactive services including stock check, delivery days, online ordering,
price checks, online statements and proof of delivery, order tracking and order
history - all through a secure personal log-in.
Said David Cormack: "The challenge was to go beyond what is currently available
and provide our retail customers with a truly effective business tool,
benchmarking the web portal against such e-commerce market leaders as Amazon
for speed and ease of use.”
One of the UK’s leading carpet manufacturers, Cormar Carpets has again
invested in a top of the range all singing all dancing 5m wide carpet cutting
It has been a 3 year ongoing
project for them and has now come to its completion with this the final phase
of a major investment by the company to solidify their already strong standing
within the flooring industry. With the installation of a second top of the
range, 5m wide cutting machine within its cut lengths department.
"The project has provided several benefits for the
business and customers,” said Cormar’s MD, David Judge. "Specifically the
second 5m cutting machine will be faster and more efficient, which in turn
increases our capacity to service customer’s needs.”
"Having two 5m cutting machines also provides us with
ongoing back-up and as the second machine features the latest technology; it
helps to ‘future-proof’ the cut lengths department.”
This final investment is only a small part of the overall
input by this a still family run business. The last phase follows on from the
installation of a new conveyor system between the warehouse and cutting tables
that increased cutting rate and capacity, along with the purchase of four new
‘compact boom trucks’ to service the updated system back in 2009. The sortation
system was upgraded in 2008, which maximised Cormar’s ability to cut, load and
ship carpet to tight deadlines.
Over the past year, Cormar Carpets has continually demonstrated
a policy of inward investment both in terms of plant, machinery, delivery fleet
and people - including a brand new advanced logistics system and investment in
five new vehicles for its truck fleet of 49 vehicles.
This is the type of investment that is only coming out of
profitable strong UK companys today due to the climate of the manufacturing
It is this commitment to ongoing investment that has seen
Cormar Carpets become one of the UK’s most successful independent carpet
companies with some one million people a year buying a Cormar carpet.

recently gotten an update of the choice of colours that you could select from,
you are sure to get something to suit you. This range is suitable for use
anywhere in the home, bust most users prefer it for the staircase, given the
stripes that it has. In 2009, the range was originally launched, and it got
quite some attention from shoppers, but it has come up again offering five more
stripes to the collection that are neutral based. Consumers have been known to
prefer the neutral canvas for the carpets as they believe that these are easy
to work with when it comes to decorations, and the Avebury range offers a
different and new way to go about interior decor, and still maintaining the
easy to work with tag.
The carpets that
are in this range are completely made from wool, and they are made to a loop
pile surface in neat level, and the wool is quality 3 ply yarn. The Avebury

the other of the Cormar carpets, the Avebury range is made in the mills of
Lancashire, and you would be able to get the carpets from any of the credible
carpet retailers. It is also possible to get up to four free samples of this so

A new study has been conducted with Landlords looking into the type of flooring that they use in the propertys that they own. Now you would have thought that they would all go down the cheap and cheerful beige carpet route, but not necessarily so it seems!
More and more landlords now seem to be spending that little bit more on their flooring and in particular the carpet that they choose. Whereas in times past it was a case of put a carpet down as cheap as possible and then replace it every year this now seems to have swung over to putting a better quality more durable carpet that can stand up to the rigors of every day living.
One of the carpet ranges is from Cormar carpets and is called Apollo.
Why have Landlords and builders found this Cormar range of carpets to be of such value?
Firstly, It comes in at a great price point and has some excellent qualities to go with it that you would only normally expect from a more expensive range.
Landlord Steve Corby said, “We tend to find that this carpet is used heavily with both Landlords and builders alike due to the price point and qualities of the carpet. Also in the current economic climate it makes more sense to lay a carpet just once in 5 years rather than 4 or 5 times in the same time frame.”
So what are some of the qualities of this fine range of Apollo from Cormar carpets?
It comes in a choice of both Plains and Tweeds and is a two fold polypropylene yarn. It also has 15 shades in the range so there is plenty of choice for you to choose from.
Steve was also quoted as saying “Sometimes things get spilt by tenants onto the carpet which is to be expected but with the Apollo carpet you don’t need to worry as it has a built in stain treatment that stops any damage being done to the carpet.”
Made from 100% luxurious Excellon Stain Resistant PP, Apollo has a 5 year Stain Resist Warranty and simply shrugs off stains like tea, coffee, wine and even oil, ink and crayon. As well as being easy to live with and simple to clean, Apollo gives you added comfort, luxury and durability. This carpet is available in both 4 & 5m widths. It is bleach cleanable and stain resistant and is the perfect combination of luxury for all around your home.
